Albert Henry Kates

Durham, NC - Albert Henry Kates, Jr. was born September 3, 1928 in Ingram, VA.After a lengthy illness with cancer, he was welcomed into the arms of his Father on December 21, 2016.Meeting him in celebration was the love of his life and sweetheart of 69 years, Atha Greene Kates.He was also welcomed by his eldest son, Dennis Kates.He leaves behind his son Jerry Kates and wife Deborah, daughter Cindy Cohea and husband Greg, daughter Vicky Stelling and husband Robert.He is survived by grandchildren Jason, Jennifer, Abbey, Brenn and Adam Kates, Carson Kettner, Chris Cohea and Jack Henry Stelling, and great-grandchildren Cale Kettner and Kherry Cohea.He is also survived by his beloved sister Elizabeth Kates Dearman. Henry was a devoted servant of God and particularly loved teaching His word.He invested countless hours studying in preparation for teaching Sunday School, leading services in nursing homes, rescue missions and serving with Child Evangelism Fellowship.He spent the past 20 years in fellowship and service to Faith Baptist Church in Toano, VA. Life took its many turns and travels, but “home” on this earth always meant the heart and farm in Chase City. Memorial service and interment will be held at Ephesus United Methodist Church in Clarksville, VA on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. All are invited to this celebration of his life.
