Alice Riggan Bowen

Alice Riggan Bowen, 93, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Halifax Regional Hospital.She was born September 1, 1921 in Granville County, NC to George Washington Riggan and Martha Lillian Blackwell Riggan. Alice was the widow of Claude Harding Bowen. She was a member of the Hitesburg Baptist Church. Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker who loved to cook. She loved her children, grandchildren and her great-grandson. Mrs. Bowen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha Szynklewski (John) of Nelson; son and daughter-in -law, Melvin H. Bowen (Hollis) of Durham, NC; brother and sister-in-law, William Riggan (Gayle); and grandchildren, John Gregory Bowen, Kathy Szynklewski Babel (Walter), and Alice Szynklewski Hoover (Andy) and great-grandchild, Ethan Babel. Alice is preceded in death by sisters, Lois Currin, Willie Belle Hart, Marie Reebals, and Carrie Atkins; and brothers, J. B. Riggan and Robert Riggan.Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00-8:30 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Ave, Clarksville. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 2, at 2:00 PM at Hitesburg Baptist Church, 2215 Hitesburg Church Road, Virgilina, Va. with the Reverend Mike Riley officiating.
