Alice Royster Hite

Virgilina, VA -- Alice “Polly” Royster Hite, wife of the late George Tilman Hite, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the age of 89. Born in Halifax County on October 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late James Ellis and Janie Pool Royster. Polly was a graduate of Virgilina High School, where she was crowned May Queen and was co-captain of the girls’ basketball team. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed bowling, tennis and softball in her younger years. Polly was a member at Aarons Creek Baptist Church. Cherishing their many fond memories are her children, Vickie H. Tolbert of King William, Harriett H. Hudson (Alan), George T. Hite, Jr. (Marsha) all of Virgilina and James S. Hite (Penny) of Danville; brother, Charles Royster of Rustburg; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by faithful friends and caregivers, Frances Martin, Lottie Penick and Barbara Powell and her beloved cat, Oreo. In addition to her husband and parents, Polly was preceded in death by siblings, James Royster and Mary Horner as well as her son-in-law, Jack Tolbert. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, November 16 at Aarons Creek Baptist Church with the Reverends Vance Midget and Robert Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. on Monday evening at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home and all other times at the residence.
