Allen V. Young

Allen V. Young, 75, husband of Ruth P. Young, passed away April 30, 2005 at his home in Lorain, OH. Serving as a First Lieutenant with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze stars as well as the Bronze Star Medal. After the war, he returned to work with US Steel Corporation retiring in 1987. Allen was a member of the American Croatian Club, the Nights of Columbus, Post 637, Oberlin Country Club, and he loved music. Funeral services will be 1PM Wednesday at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst, OH with visitation 3-7PM Tuesday. The Reverend Ralph Fotia, pastor emeritus of Shaffer United Methodist Church in Cleveland will officiate. Interment will be in Boydton at the Young Family Cemetery on the family plantation. Reverend Richard Grendahl will officiate at the 4PM service, Thursday May 5th, 2005. In addition to his wife, Mr. Young is survived by sons, Richard A. Young of Westin, Mass and John W. Young of Lorain; daughter, Laura J. Young of University Park, FL; two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Eula Mae Young nee Petty and by his brother, John William Young and sisters, Mary Alice Porter, Kathryn Moore and Sarah Young. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the New Life Hospice 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyra, Ohio 44035_.
