CHASE CITY - Alma Frances Toombs Wilson of Chase City went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the age of 86.With a clear mind and a healed body, she joined the family and friends who had gone before, including her husband, Clarence Edward Wilson. Alma was born in Saxe, VA on February 3, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George RussellandJulia Lipscomb Toombs. As one of 11 children, she felt it her duty to leave school to help at home and on the farm. She met and married Clarence and together they built a happy home for themselves and their 3 girls. Alma was a self reliant, hardworking woman of strong faith. She worked at Craddock-Terry Shoe Corp for many years until it closed. After that she worked at Jonbil and lastly as a cafeteria worker at Chase City Elementary School. Not one to sit around, she would volunteer at her church, washed clothes for shut-ins and was sure when she visited you that she washed your dishes. When she did take idle time, she could assuredly be found reading her Bible or watching old westerns. Alma loved her grandchildren beyond measure and enjoyed spending time with them, attending ball games, swimming, teaching them to drive and many other fun things. Cherishing each and every memory are her daughters, Brenda W. Woodard (Alan),Janet W. Gregory and Clarissa W. Ferrell (Tommy Peregoy); grandchildren, Christy Woodard, Burlin Gregory(Sarah), Daniel Woodard (Beth), Scott Gregory, Justin C. Ferrell (Erin) and Jessica F. Elliott (Chris); great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lindsey, Aidan, Zachary, Kaelyn, Emersyn, Grace and Kade. Also surviving are sisters, Marian Lenhart, Mary Lianos, Joyce Wall (Evan) and Linda Kersey; sister-in-laws, Carrie Lee Fitz (Henry) and Lena Toombs, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Sturgis Toombs, Carl Toombs, John Toombs, Samuel Toombs, David Toombs and Jerry Toombs; and a son-in-law, Burlin "Al" Gregory. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, March 15 at Woodland Cemetery in Chase City with The Reverend Joey Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Janet Gregory. The family requests in lieu of flowers please consider a charity of your choice.
