Alpheus Steward "Al" Crutchfield

SOUTH BOSTON, VA Mr. Alpheus Steward "Al" Crutchfield of 108 Robin Hood Road, South Boston, VA died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the age of 93.He was born in South Hill, VA. on June 18, 1921, to the late Samuel C. Crutchfield and the late Elva Watson Crutchfield, and was married to the late Gladys Tharpe Crutchfield.Mr. Crutchfield served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from Spaulding Equipment Company. He was a member ofVFW Post 8243, American Legion Post 8, and McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Linda C. Gupton and husband Gary of South Boston, VA and Judy C. Dunn and husband David of Halifax, VA., one grandson, Trent Hundley "Jay" Gilliland, Jr. and by a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Sam Crutchfield, Edward Crutchfield, and Drewery Crutchfield. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Halifax Memorial Gardens with The Reverend Joe Trickey and The Reverend Jack Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Friday night from 7 until 8 PM, and at other times at the home of Linda & Gary Gupton, 2952 Alexander Avenue, South Boston, VA.
