Mr. Alvah B. Chappell, 92, husband of Martha Evans Chappell, died Tuesday afternoon at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Chappell was native to Person County, NC, but grew up in Clarksville. He graduated from Clarksville High School with the class of 1931 and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. For many years, Mr. Chappell was a member of the Clarksville Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He later joined St. Timothy?s Episcopal Church where he was still a member. In addition to serving as a town councilman, he was a charter member of the Clarksville Lion?s Club and a member of Kinderton Country Club. He retired from the Chappell Insurance Agency after over 40 years as the managing owner. He also was a certified real estate appraiser. Alvah was a loving husband of 65 years and a wonderful father. A Memorial service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2PM at St. Timothy?s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Susan Grimm officiating. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters and son-in-law Barbara Chappell Dennis of Richmond and Marti & F. Baldwin Harrington of Fredericksburg; grandsons Robert Morton Miller, III; Eugene Terry Dennis, IV; Christopher Chappell Dennis; granddaughter, Jacqueline Chappell Miller White; and seven great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by daughter, Jacqueline Lee Chappell. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to St. Timothy?s Episcopal Church.
