Alvis Elmo “A.E.” Morris, 96, of Virgilina, VA passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home. He was born in Halifax Co., VA to the late Henry Spencer Morris and the late Lucy Loraine Boyd Morris. Mr.Morris was a member of Union Christian Church and CEO of A.E. Morris Trucking. He is the last survivor of his generation, the sixth son, and he had five older brothers and four sisters. Mr. Morris has owned and operated A.E. Morris Hauling, Inc. since 1952. He was a Deacon and choir member of Union Christian Church and he started the Red Bank Ramblers, a bluegrass and gospel group. Mr. Morris was married to the love of his life, Virginia Puryear Morris for 74 years. Survivors include his wife, Virginia May Puryear Morris of Virgilina, VA; two sons, Alvah Lee Morris & wife, Elaine, and Ronald Wade Morris & wife, Betty all of Virgilina, VA; a daughter-in-law, Letty Morris of Virgilina, VA; 9 grandchildren, Vivian Morris Broach, Lisa Morris Long & husband, Nick, John Murphy Morris, Tammy Morris Wall & husband, Jeremy, Tina Morris Midkiff & husband, Bran, Tracy Morris Clark & husband, Charlie, Adam Wade Morris, Crystal Ann Morris & fiancé, Travis Ingram; 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Wayne Morris and one granddaughter, Angel Leigh Morris. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Union Christian Church with Rev. Norman Talley and Rev. Bobby Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 6:30 until 8:30 PM.
