Alwayne Carpenter Gee

April 17, 1930 — February 26, 2015

On February 26, 2015, Alwayne passed away peacefully at her home in Buffalo Junction, VA. Alwayne was born on April 17, 1930 in the western North Carolina mountains in the small town of Robbinsville, NC and was the first child of Hardie and Aloe Carpenter. Alwayne was a kind, loving person who was a loyal friend.She was a great daughter, mom, mother-in-law and sister.She always had time to listen and comfort you or share your joy.Her glass was always half full no matter what struggles she had to deal with.We will miss those twinkling eyes and smiling face. Alwayne was an active political campaigner and loved to watch Duke Basketball; she was one of their biggest fans.Alwayne retired from Duke University after more than 20 years of service. Mom would want us to thank Keisha Jackson and all the excellent nursing staff at Halifax Regional Hospital for all their kindness and the wonderful care she received from them while she was a patient there in January. Thank you, Doctor Pugh for your professional and compassionate care of Mom.Thank you, Janet Conner for all your help and support.A special thanks to Dr. Susan Hundley who was always there when Mom needed her. Alwayne is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Connie and Jim Wilkerson of Buffalo Junction, VA, and Cathy and Allen Williams of Durham, NC. Alwayne is also survived by five brothers and their spouses, and two sisters, Clint and Linda Carpenter, David and Shoney Carpenter, Avery and Wanda Carpenter, Virgus and Izetta Carpenter all of Robbinsville, NC, Bluford and Beatrice Carpenter of Marble, NC, and sisters Betty Crisp and Mary Rogers both of Robbinsville, NC. Graveside services were held at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC. Contributions in honor of Alwayne can be sent to the Calvary Baptist Church, General Fund, P.O. Box 2085, Robbinsville, N.C. 28771
