Anne Lawson Hershey of Red Oak, VA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in New Jersey on April 3, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Winifred Chamberlain Lawson and was married to the late Howard Alan Hershey.
Anne was a computer scientist in the early days of computers. She was a programmer working with punch cards used in machines the size of a room. Additionally, Anne was a professor of Higher Mathematics at Middlesex County College. In 1958, Anne married her childhood sweetheart, Alan and they started and raised their family in New Jersey. After her retirement, she and her husband moved to the Red Oak community. Anne was a member at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Hershey (Laurie); grandchildren, Kristina Hershey (Chelsea) and James Hershey (Lisa); brother, John Lawson and a plethora of nieces and nephews. Anne was also GiGi to her great grandchildren, Shi’King and Promise. She was preceded in death by a son, David Alan Hershey and a sister, Mary Sitomer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Susan Grimm officiating. Commital will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery.
