DURHAM, NC Atha Jeanette (Greene) Kates was born April 9, 1931.After a lengthy illness, she was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on February 14, 2016.Meeting her in Heaven were her son, Dennis Kates, her parents, Leonard and Mae Greene, her sisters, Ruby King & Trilvie Towery, and her brother, James Greene, and a host of other family members and friends.She leaves behind the love of her life and husband of almost 67 years, Albert Henry Kates, Jr, son Jerry Kates and wife Deborah, daughter Cindy Cohea and husband Greg, daughter Vicky Stelling and husband Rob. She is also survived by grandchildren Jason, Jennifer, Abbey, Brenn and Adam Kates, Chris Cohea, Carson Kettner, and Jack Henry Stelling, great grandchildren Kherry Cohea and Cale Kettner, and numerous other family members and friends. Atha was a devoted servant of God and particularly loved singing in the choir of her church.Many happy hours were spent at the piano playing and singing gospel hymns with anyone who would join her. The family would like to thank her earthly angels Gloria, Cynthia and Ayisha, for their tender, loving care these last few months.And, more recently, the wonderful staff of UNC Hospice care. A memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Toano, Virginia on February 17, 2016 at 11:00 am.All are invited to this celebration of her life.Interment will be at Ephesus Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarksville, Virginia.
