February 24, 1934 — September 11, 2023

Mrs. Barbara Ann Lowery Talbott, 89, died peacefully at her home in Cluster Springs on Monday, September 11, 2023.

Born on February 24, 1934 in the Hyco community, she was one of eight children loved and raised by Garland H and Dura Hudson Lowery.

She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Cluster Springs High School, and she excelled playing fastpitch softball and basketball for her school teams.

Married to Edward Charlie Talbott, she was the loving mother to their four children, grandmother to eleven, great grandmother to nine, and honorary mother and grandmother to many other children.

She continued her love of sports throughout her life, playing on and coaching many different softball teams through the years, sharing her love of the game with many young players.

She also was an active bowler, enjoying many friendships made along the way as well as playing in multiple local, state, and national tournaments. She was a member of the local bowling hall of fame and well as the Halifax County South Boston Sports Hall of Fame.

She is survived by her children, Bunny (and Phil) Propst, Donna (and Michael) Hudson, Sandy (and Marshall) Slayton and Darrin (and Dianne) Talbott.

Also knowing her constant love are her grandchildren Olivia (and Jason) Shockey of Olney, Md, Drew (and Hannah) Morris of Clarksville, Zach (and Deirdre) Morris of Powhatan, Luke (and Laura) Hudson of Cluster Springs, Eli (and Clara) Hudson of Virgilina,  Adam (and Jacqui) Slayton of Richmond, Patrick (and Emily) Slayton of Richmond, Emily (and Michael) Berry of Monterey, CA, Christopher, Joey and Nathan Talbott of South Boston.

She was blessed to be loved by great-grandchildren Audrey and Mina Shockey; Aria and Elora Morris; Cooper, Lincoln and Jack Slayton; and Graham and Reid Slayton, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was fortunate to live next door to and be visited often by her great niece Laci (and Rick) Compton and their children Anna, Audrey, Dawson, and Drake, as well as her other cherished Cluster Springs neighbors.

Her surviving siblings are Jane (and Ryland) Clark, Andy (and Jeanette) Lowery, Jesse (and Bernice) Lowery, and Clifton (and Joyce) Lowery.

Her life was enriched and she was blessed to have many outstanding caregivers including Jerrie Wilmoth, Kendra Simmons, Rhonda Reaves, Joyce Barker, Jessica Kittrell, Christopher Talbott, and Debbie Hite, Nancy Cave, Barbara Jean Hamlett, and lifelong best friend Betty Rose Blanks.

She is predeceased by her parents, Garland and Dura Lowery, her beloved husband, Edward Talbott, and siblings Nell Bowen, Irene Yancey,  and Colonel Lowery.

Barbara was a loving friend, a fierce competitor, a cherished neighbor, a high standards role model and mentor, and a force to be reckoned with.
