Barbara Anne Jones Murray

VIRGILINA Mrs. Barbara Anne Jones Murray of Virgilina, departed her earthly home on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. She was born in Halifax County on February 15, 1930 and was 89 years old. She was the daughter of Otis Dewey Jones and Mary Reeks Jones. Barbara Anne graduated from Virgilina High School where she played basketball. After high school she obtained a degree from Mayfair College of Beauty Culture. She was a member of Union Christian Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the Women’s Fellowship. She was a charter/lifetime member of the Virgilina Woman’s Club. In her younger days, she managed and coached the Virgilina Ruritan Girls Softball League and was a volunteer at Virgilina Elementary in reading with 1st grade. Mrs. Murray is predeceased in death by her parents and husband, Ralph Owen Murray, Sr. and a brother, Otis Dewey Jones, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son Ralph Owen Murray, Jr and wife, Beverly of Virgilina; one daughter, Carole Murray Tisdale and husband, Joseph of Pueblo, Colorado; one sister, Jacquelyn Jones Myers of Richmond and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her very special fur baby, Miss Kitty.A special thank you to Mrs. Murray’s caregivers: Sandra Stone, Debbie Hite, Jean Hartrum, Natasha Gregory, Lucinda Gregory and Wanda Mullins. Funeral Services for Mrs. Murray will be held at Union Christian Church in Virgilina on Saturday, June 29 at 11:00 AM, with visitation from 10-10:45 AM. Pastor Jimmy Pulliam will be conducting the service. Interment will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery. The family will be accepting visitors at other times at the home, 1192 Seventh Street, Virgilina.
