Barbara Slemp Crews, “Tillie,” widow of James Monroe Crews, Jr., passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the age of 92.Barbara was born April 4, 1929 in Smith County Virginia to the late Vernon Ianson and Margaret Branch Slemp. Barbara was a Home Demonstration Agent with the state of Virginia before she married. Following her marriage, she and Jim traveled the world in Jim’s service in the United States Air Force. They retired in 1980 and moved to Boydton, VA where she was an active member of the Boydton United Methodist Church. In 1997, Barbara moved to Hoover, AL to be closer to children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Riverchase United Methodist Church. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband James Monroe Crews, Jr., daughter Patricia McLain of Calera, AL and brother Peter Slemp of Texas City, TX. She is survived by her daughters Kathy Teufert of Clemmons, NC, and Susan Farrell (Kevin) of Helena, AL, son Jim Crews of Golden, CO, sister Peggy Slemp of Newport News, VA, twin brother Dan Abe Slemp (Marivene) of Marion, VA, grandchildren Kelly Farrell Adams (John), Patrick Farrell, Meghan Farrell, Christina Teufert, Jonathon McLain, and great grandchildren James, Ava, and Isaac Adams. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 21st at the Boydton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Boydton Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a future date at Riverchase United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at a www.wclfh.com.
