Barbara Bowes Irby

Mrs. Barbara Bowes Irby of Alton died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the age of 81. She was born in Person Co., NC on May 3, 1929 to the late George Weldon Bowes and the late Maggie Lou Briggs Bowes and was married to the late Luther Otis Irby. Mrs. Irby was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and was a retired seamstress at Irvin Industries. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Jean Irby Gooch of Thomasville, NC, Lillie Mae Irby Womack and husband, Larry Wilson Womack of South Boston, and Alice Faye Irby Oakley and friend, Jim Norris of Clarksville; son, Luther Wayne Irby of Salisbury, NC; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son, Clyde Weldon Irby; grandson, Curtis Wilson Womack; and son-in-law, Matt Ellis Gooch. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Chapel with Rev. Hugh Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Friday night from 7 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home, 1070 Horseshoe Trail, Alton.
