Barbara Jean Sneed Lyon

State Road, NC Barbara Jean Sneed Lyon, 78, widow of Orrion Alva Lyon, passed away at her home on Monday, January 19, 2015. Born in Surry County on October 18, 1936 to the late Claude Jefferson and Lexie Walters Sneed, Barbara earned a business degree from Surry Community College.She taught adult education for the Wilkes and Surry Community Colleges (sewing) for several years.She later worked as a Counselor for Women's Correctional Facility in Charlotte and later as a Counselor for the Wilkes County Group Home for the developmentally disabled.In her retirement Barbara enjoyed working at the Welcome Center in Jonesville and her summer home at Greenstreet Resort in Stone Mountain.She was known as a crafty woman.Barbara was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends from Noon until 2pm on Thursday with the funeral service at 2pm.The Reverend John Attaway officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery.Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law,Kaye and Gurney Reavis and Jennifer and Norman Garris, of State Road and sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Reverend Jane T. Lyon of Clarksville, VA and Roderick Gray and Lisa Lyon of Westfield; grandchildren, Mechelle Hawkins and husband Jamie, Fain Barker and husband Josh, Captain James Blackburn and wife Olivia, Brandon Lyon,Robert Mitchell and Katherne Shew; and "like" grandchildren, Kristen Tucker, Heather Branon and Kristen Booker; great grandchildren, Austin, Cameron, Hadley, Reese, Dixon; and cousin, Louise Darnell.Contributions may be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, P.O.
