Barbara Jean Pruitt Poe

Ms. Barbara Jean Pruitt Poe of 7048 Huell Matthews Hwy., Alton died Sunday January 3, 2010 at the age of 63. She was born in Danville, VA on November 13, 1946 to the late James Edgar and Viola Elizabeth Pruitt. Ms. Poe was of the Baptist faith. She was reared in Mecklenburg Co., VA and was educated in Mecklenburg Co. schools. Prior to moving to Halifax Co. 10 years ago, she lived and worked in Richmond for 35 years, retiring as an insurance agent. Ms. Poe is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Ellington and wife, Deborah of Powhatan; three brothers, Bobby Pruitt of Scottsburg, James Pruitt of Chattanooga, TN, and Kenneth Pruitt of Rocky Mount; a sister, Beatrice P. Fourqurean of South Boston; three grandsons, Kenneth Wayne Ellington, James Ross Ellington, Trevor John Ellington, all of Powhatan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Daniel T. Pruitt. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Monday, January 4 from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of Beth Pruitt McNamee, 7044 Huell Matthews Hwy., Alton.
