Barry Thomas Roberts

Barry Thomas Roberts, husband of Betty Thomasson Roberts, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023, at Commonwealth Senior Living in South Boston, VA, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on April 10, 1943, to the late George Thomas and Florence Marcus Roberts in Richmond, VA.

Barry was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen Bruce, and Joan Thames Roberts. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his nephew, Whitney Bradford Roberts, of Woodbridge, VA, and niece Sarah Winn Roberts, of Clarksville, VA.

Barry graduated from Bluestone High School and the University of Richmond, Richmond, VA and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He worked with Burlington Industries for 37 years. He worked part-time with Simmons & Associates Realty and State Farm Insurance after his retirement. He was a member of Clarksville Baptist Church and attended Union Chapel Baptist Church.

Barry participated in many Clarksville community activities and was one of the founding members of the Clarksville Community Players in 1973. As President of CCP for several years, he actively participated in the renovation and restoration of the original Clarksville High School, which is now the Clarksville Fine Arts Center.

A memorial service will be held at Watkins- Cooper Lyon Funeral Home at 2 PM, Sunday, August 6, 2023. Following the service there will be visitation in the lobby of the Clarksville Fine Arts Center at 914 Virginia Ave, Clarksville, VA.

Very special gratitude goes to Barry’s faithful companion, Patricia Skipwith Gause, for her invaluable and devoted care for the past 14 months.
