Bessie Waller Bettis

SOUTH BOSTON Mrs. Bessie Waller Bettis of South Boston went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the age of 92. She was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on September 12, 1927 to the late Howard Newbill Waller and the late Linnie Walker Waller and was married to the late Billy Baxter Bettis. Bessie was a member of Ash Ave. Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the AARP. Left behind to cherish her memories are her wonderful sons, Dewey Compton and wife, Valerie and Danny Long and wife, Hilda; her precious grandchildren, Chad Compton and wife, Kelly, Anne-Ashley Compton, Kristen Compton, Todd Long and wife, Dana, and Tony Long;her great grandchildren, Richard Dewey "Duke" Compton, Rose Styron, Katie Long, Ty Long, and Logan Long and special friend, Bill Burbank. Funeral services for Mrs. Bettis will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Betty B. Jones Chapel at Brooks Lyon with the Reverend Randy Holmes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. As a reminder, those attending the service at the funeral home must wear a mask due to the restrictions of the Covid-19.
