Betsy Bevell Phillips

Betsy Bevell Phillips, 83, of Boydton, VA died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. She was born March 16, 1932 in Boydton, VA to the late Williams Spotswood, Sr., and Martha Elizabeth Carter Bevell. Betsy graduated from Boydton High School in the class of 1949, attended Longwood University, and was married to John Arlie Phillips on December 14, 1951. She was the Administrative Assistant to the Clerk of the Court of Mecklenburg County during the administration of Nat Hutcheson. Betsy loved nothing more than to spend time with her family, especially her grandson Christopher. She was an avid golfer and loved her golfing trips with her friends. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband, John; daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Wyatt “Chip” Overton, Jr. of Clarksville; grandson, Christopher Phillips Overton of Clarksville; and sister-in-law, Adrean Taylor of Bracey. Betsy was preceded in death by her siblings William Spotswood Bevell, Jr.; and her sister Anne Laura Bevell. Graveside services will be held at Boydton Episcopal Church on Friday, September 11 at 4:00 P.M. with the Reverend Charles Davis officiating. Visitation for friends and family will be at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home on Friday at 2:00-4:00 P.M.
