Betty Jane Bowen James

Clarksville, Virginia - Betty Jane Bowen James, wife of the late Frank Leo James, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at the age of 87. She was born on September 16, 1932 in Halifax County to the late Martha Blanks and Willie Wise Bowen. Betty worked at Russell Stover Candy for the endurance of the plant’s tenure in Clarksville. In addition, she helped her husband on the family farm. She was passionate about her family, her flower garden and square dancing with Frank. Betty was an auxiliary member of the Rescue Squad and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Billie James and Dale and Tammy James, all of Clarksville; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Cook, Yvonne Sizemore and Hilma Allen. A graveside service will be held at 3 P.M on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Eternity Mausoleum in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home one hour before the service. The Reverend Chris Sorenson will officiate.
