Betty worked for the Prince George’s County, Maryland public school system, then The Washington Star newspaper for many years, and was later employed at The US News and World Report magazine.

She taught Sunday School and played the piano for many years at Richie Baptist and Clinton Baptist churches in Maryland. She was a loving and proud mom, grandmother, and sister. She always felt there was no greater calling than being a mom. She enjoyed life and cherished spending time with her family and friends. She made many new friends upon moving to Halifax County and she appreciated each one of them.
