Beulah Francis Whitlow

Beulah Lea Francis Whitlow, 83, the eighth child of the late William Daniel Francis and the late Lois Mae Dawson Francis was born October 2, 1930 in Pittslyvania County at the family farm near Java. She died January 4, 2014 at her home in Halifax County in the Hyco Road Community. She was married to the late John Riley “Pete” Whitlow, Jr. Beulah is survived by her daughters: Bonnie Bowen and husband, Ray of South Boston, and Joyce Hull and husband, David of, Waynesboro. Grandchildren include Brian and Aleta Chandler, Gray, Tennessee; Leeann and Rob Thornton, Hopewell, New Jersey; Riley and Heather Chandler, Waynesboro; Jonathan Hull, Seattle, Washington; Aaron Hull, Baltimore, Maryland; Adam and Lilly Hull, Washington, D.C.; Rebekah Hull, Waynesboro; Nathan Hull, Glen Bernie, Maryland; Mark Hull, Waynesboro; and Mary Catherine Hull, Lynchburg. Great grandchildren are Austin Chandler, Natalie Chandler, Rachel Thornton, Oscar Chandler, and Lauren Thornton. Also surviving are her brother Lewis Harper Francis, of Sutherlin, and sisters in law., Emily Lou Francis, of Java, and Pat Francis, of Graham, North Carolina. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death her siblings and their spouses Mary and Gordon Bowen; Thelma and Bernard Edwards; Edward and Onie Francis; Ruth and Lawrence Walker; Ruth Francis; Eva and Walter LaForm; Albert Francis; Malcolm and Faye Francis; Henry and Ven Francis; and Lawrence Francis. Beulah was a graduate of Spring Garden High School and Virginia Commercial Business College. She was a binder at Craddrock -Terry Shoe Company, an associate with Service America at ABB, and a custodian with Halifax County Public Schools at Virgilina Elementary School. She was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church where she served in the church nursery. The family will greet friends at Brooks Funeral Home from 7:00-9:00 PM Friday, January 10 and other times at her home, 3183 Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston. A service celebrating her life will be at Brooks Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2014 with Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family request in lieu of flowers memorials to Black Walnut Baptist Church, P.O.
