Billy Thames

June 17, 1925 — November 4, 2007

Mr. Billy Thames, 82, husband of Rosa Moore Thames, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Duke Hospital. Born and reared in Nelson, Billy was the son of John Robert and Sarah Elizabeth O?Geary Thames. A graduate of Clarksville High School with the Class of 1942, he was decorated with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving with the 29th Division U.S. Army during World War II. A member of Clarksville Baptist Church, Billy was a former Trustee and Deacon Chair; was a longtime former member of Nelson Baptist Church; and was a member of the VFW Post # 8163. He operated Thames Grocery Store & Thames Farm Supply from 1950 until 1990. Memorial services will be 3PM Wednesday at Clarksville Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Randall and Walt Westbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Mr. Thames is survived by daughters Teresa T. Wilkinson and her husband, Douglas L. Wilkinson of Chester and Joan T. Roberts and her husband, Stephen B. Roberts of Clarksville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Erik Leon Wilkinson, Whitney Bradford Roberts, Willis Heath Wilkinson and Sarah Roberts Greene and her husband, Wallace Parcell Greene. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 2-3PM in the Narthex of Clarksville Baptist Church. Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home is serving the Thames family.
