Birdie Louise Moore Eklund

RUFFIN, NC - Birdie “Louise” Moore Eklund of Ruffin, NC passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the age of 81. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on August 23, 1936 the daughter of the late John Henry Moore and the late Avy Bray Moore. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and was a former waitress at Swanee’s Restaurant. Louise was a great mother and loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to church and listening to gospel music. Louise is survived by her significant other, Wayne “Papa Smurf” Barbour; son, Aaron B. Cox, Jr. and wife, Faye; daughter, Valeria Cox Rhew; daughter-in-law, Therese Bryant; grandchildren, Ann Marie, Linsey, Georgia, Brad, Kayla, Wayne, and Daphne; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Edna Moore Parker; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Mike, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters, and a great grandchild. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM in Oak Ridge Cemetery with Chaplain David Fox officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Brooks Lyon Funeral Home to assist with her burial expenses.
