2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith Mr. William Blackwell “Black” Milton, 98, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the home of Vivian and Alvah Lee Vaughan (his daughter and son-in-law who have been his caregivers for many years.“Black”, as he was known by his family and all his close friends, was born in Granville County, NC on August 4, 1916.He served his country during World War II by building barracks for our service men at Camp Butner, NC.During his life he worked as a carpenter, building many homes.He also worked at Burlington Industries, but his love was for farming, which brought him back to his farm at Buffalo Junction, where he made his home with the beloved wife, India, and their three children.He loved farming there and sharing his bounty of fruits and vegetables (with whoever happened by) for as long as his health allowed.He was an active member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was well known for his expertise in “making a Brunswick Stew” or helping with the many fish fries and ice cream suppers. He was a great neighbor.“Black” was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, India, his parents, William Henry and Mamie Milton, his step-mother, Ethel Milton, his daughter, Shirley Ann Frazier, his granddaughter, Kellie Karole Spicer, his three sisters, Mary Ann “Mae” Parham, Lena Blackwell, Lettie Grace Holder, and Elsie Puckett, one brother, Roy David and two nephews, Kenneth and Randy Milton.He is survived by his daughter, Vivian “Ducky” and her husband, Alvah Lee Vaughn, his son, William, and his wife, Linda, one granddaughter, Debbie Edwards, three grandsons, Wayne Vaughn, Downy Frazier, and Reece Milton, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.His sisters, Sadie Blackwell, Daisy Frazier, Catherine Johnson, Florence Gupton and one brother, Russell and his wife, Ann, and many nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday at Buffalo Baptist Church with Pastors Wally Kelly and Dan Tilly officiating.The family will receive friends starting at 1pm at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, Va.24592.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
