Bobby Russell Clay

Bobby Russell Clay of South Boston, VA, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the age of 78. He was born in Halifax County on November 6, 1942, to the late William Herman and Ada Lovelace Clay. He was a member of Brookneal Church of God of Prophecy. Bobby was a retired truck driver who loved his family. He was good hearted and believed in doing the right thing. Bobby didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education but he did work hard and obtained his General Education Degree in June 1991. Even after losing his eyesight he remained positive and always maintained his sense of humor. He was known for his kind and compassionate spirit.His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Bobby is survived by his sons, Michael Matthew Clay of Farmville, Steven Russell Clay (Stephanie) and Bobby Wayne Clay, all of Halifax; daughters, Peggy Clay Short (Wayne) and Jeanette Clay Laughorn (Michael), all of South Boston; sisters, Estelle Hodges and Corine Clay; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his former wife, Janice Perkins Clay. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sterling Ingram, Bonnie McKinney, Pat Clay, Lillian Crews; brothers, Floyd Clay, Ernest Clay and Stuart Clay and grandson, Daniel Short. He was also preceded in death by his beloved friend, Carolyn King Parrish. A graveside service will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at The King Cemetery, 568 Cluster Pines Road, in Mt. Airy, VA. The family will receive friends at the home of Jeanette Laughorn, 4404 Brentwood Drive, South Boston, VA
