Camilla (Millie) Wilbourne Coates, our beloved aunt, and great aunt, friend, and loved one, went home today, August 24, 2012. She was born in her beloved city of South Boston in Halifax County, VA on August 25, 1929. Mrs. Coates was preceded in death by her husband, Clem O. Coates, her son, Gerald Wayne Coates, her parents, Archer Atkins Wilbourne and Evelyn Talley Wilbourne, her sisters, Ann Wilbourne Wade and Shirley Wilbourne Shotwell. She is survived by Patricia (Pat) Wade, niece of Burlington, NC; Rev. David C. Wade (Cindy), nephew of Beaufort, NC; Calvin Wade (Madeline) nephew of Burlington, NC; Pam Whitlow (Kurk), niece of Roxboro, NC; Cindy Gornto (Andy), niece. She is also survived by numerous loving great nieces and great nephews and loving cousins. Mrs. Coates retired from the Dietary Department at Halifax Regional Hopsital in 1990 and then moved to Elizabethtown, NC where she resided with her nephew, Rev. David C. Wade and family for 17 years. She relocated to Burlington, NC and resided in Springview Assisted Living, Graham, NC. There she was surrounded by many loving friends and staff. She continued her gardening at Springview. Mrs. Coates was also a wonderful cook and loved making her Millie Bread for her family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved all her family. Mrs. Coates was a member of Cherry Hill United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 12:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David C. Wade officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cherry Hill United Methodist Church, 2153 Cherry Hill Church Rd., South Boston, VA 24592 or to Hospice Care Center of Alamance/Caswell County, 915 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
