Carolyn Lumsden Allen

Mrs. Carolyn Lumsden Allen passed away at the Masonic Home of VA in Richmond,VA on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the age of 88.Born in Bowling Green, KY on January 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Asbury Lumsden and the late Nell Hill Lumsden and was married to the late Earl Briggs Allen, Sr. Carolyn was a wonderful mother to her children, Briggs and Elizabeth. Along with her late husband, Earl, she helped manage the family business, Allen Carpet and Tile. She was very creative in painting and poetry, had a wonderful sense of humor, very outgoing, and loved living at the Masonic Home. Survivors include a son, Dr. E. Briggs Allen, Jr (Elise) of Blountsville, TN; daughter, Elizabeth Allen Smith (Gene) of Oak Ridge, NC; grandson, Chris Haley of Richmond, VA; sisters, Mildred Ammons and Sylvia Lacks (Roy) of Richmond, VA; and a special friend, Patricia “Pattie” Coakley of South Boston. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Ernest A. Lumsden, Jr. and a special friend, Jack Golightly. The family would like to thank the Masonic Home and staff for 11 years of wonderful care. Funeral services for Carolyn Allen will be on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, 12:00 – 1:00, at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
