Carolyn Norwood Williams, of Clarksville, VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on Friday, June 19, 1942, in Lee County, NC, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Edward S. Norwood and Nellie Dawson Norwood. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Philip Williams. Carolyn is survived by her sister, Martha N. Doster (Tom) of Athens, GA; her cousins, Nancy Ayers of Clarksville, VA and Van Ellis (Carolyn) of Mebane, NC.
Carolyn's academic journey began at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, where she completed her undergraduate studies. Her passion for literature and knowledge led her to pursue a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Carolyn dedicated 32 years of her life to serving the community as a librarian at the Greensboro Public Library, where she inspired countless individuals with her love for books and learning. Beyond her professional achievements, Carolyn was known for her nurturing spirit and affection for her furry companions, who brought joy and warmth to her life over the years.
Her family would like to extend special thanks to all of the faculty and staff of 1st Care at Home Hospice and Commonwealth Senior Living of South Boston, VA for their dedication and care for Carolyn.
Carolyn's life will be celebrated with a Graveside Service at Tabernacle Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom, and dedication to her community will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carolyn's memory to a local animal shelter or library, honoring her enduring love for animals and literature.
