Mrs. Carrie Riggan Atkins of 9024 Bill Tuck Hwy., Virgilina, VA died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born in Granville County, NC on September 17, 1925 to the late George Washington Riggan and the late Martha Blackwell Riggan and was married to the late David Crockett Atkins, Sr.. Mrs. Atkins was the retired owner/operator of Hyco Landing Store and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle. Survivors include a son, David C. Atkins, Jr. and wife, Carolyn of Carrboro, NC; two daughters, Elaine A. Yarbough and husband, Richard of Buffalo Junction, VA, Angela Sheppe and husband, Steve of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, J.B. Riggan and William Riggan both of Buffalo Junction, VA; one sister, Alice Riggan Bowen of Nelson, VA; three grandchildren, Jason Wilkerson and wife, Cheryl, Gary Wilkerson and wife, Beth, and Brooke Atkins; one step-granddaughter, Megan Squires; three great-grandchildren, Heather Wilkerson, Frankie Wilkerson, and Matthew Wilkerson; two step great grandchildren, Derek Holcomb and Elizabeth Holcomb; one great great granddaughter, Vanessa Holcomb. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Madison Riggan and three sisters, Lois Riggan Currin, Willie Bell Riggan Hart, and Marie Riggan Reebals. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11 am at Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. William Weeks and Rev. Randy Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7 pm until 8:30 pm and at other times at her home.
