Mr. Carroll Allen Carter of 8181 Philpott Rd., South Boston died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the age of 59. Mr. Carter was born in Halifax Co. on August 5, 1950 to John Wallace Carter and the late Caroline Phelps Carter and was married to Charlotte Edmonds Carter. He was a member of Alton Baptist Church and a former employee of Tar Heel Mobile Homes. Survivors include his wife; his father of Danville; a daughter, Donna C. Garland and husband, Bill of Red Oak; two sons, Steven Carter & wife, Mary of Nathalie and William "Billy" Carter and wife, Kristi of Goode; a sister, Patricia White and husband, Jackie of Danville; a brother, Rev. L. Wayne Carter and wife, Linda of Dumfries; three grandchildren, Brandon Garland, Taylor Garland, and Julia Carter; and devoted friends, Billy and Anne Wilkerson and Melvin and Sandra Long. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pattie and Frank Phelps, Sr. and Annie and Jasper Carter. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Ward and Rev. L. Wayne Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Alton Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Friday night from 7 until 8:30 and at other times at the home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Ave., South Boston, VA 24592, Turbeville Vol. Fire Dept., 1002 Melon Rd., South Boston, VA 24592, or Halifax Co. Cancer Association, PO Box 875, South Boston, VA 24592.
