Catherine Barksdale Dixon

SOUTH BOSTON Mrs. Catherine Barksdale Dixon passed away Monday, January 1, 2017 at the age of 80. Born in Pittsylvania County on August 21, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Narvel Barksdale and the late Susie Net Walker Barksdale and was married to the late Claborne Barksdale “C.B.” Dixon. Catherine loved her Shepherd Street friends, gardening, her flowers, shopping with her children and family gatherings. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and loved her church family. Survivors include her daughters, Cindy McConnel and husband Lee of Chester, VA, Kathy Talley and husband Walter of Buffalo Junction, VA, Vickie Carroll and husband Mike of Goochland, Va; son, Randy Dixon and wife Rene of South Boston, VA; grandchildren, Christie McConnel, C.J. McConnel, Craig McConnel, Heather Cox and husband Josh, Ryan Dixon, Ricky Boyd and wife Samantha, Michael Carroll and wife Emma, Kevin Carroll; great grandchildren, Caroline Boyd, Olivia McConnel, Paisley McConnell and Celeste McConnel; and sister, Alease Waller. Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Alice Spence; brothers, Charles Randolph Barksdale and William Lee Barksdale and grandchild, Nathan Lee Talley. Funeral services for Mrs. Dixon will be held at Second Baptist Church on Friday, January 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM.Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2017 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home from 6:00 PM till 7:30 PM.
