Catherine Hazelwood Smith

VIRGILINA, VA Mrs. Catherine Hazelwood Smith of Virgilina, VA died Friday, October 21, 2016 at the age of 84.She was born in Halifax County on April 10, 1932 to the late Thomas Watkins Hazelwood and the late Christina Powell and was married to the late Robert Diah Smith.Catherine was a member of North Fork Baptist Church. Survivors include daughters, Peggy Smith of Virgilina, VA, Bonnie Williamson of Grassy Creek, NC, Kathy Keeton and Doris Keeton both of Nelson, VA; sons and their wives, Clifton Thomas and Mary Smith and Robert Henry and Alice Smith both of Virgilina, VA; sister and her husband, Frances and Tom Conner of South Boston, VA; 14 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren.In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Burnett Hazelwood and a grandson, Galen Leon Owen, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church with the Reverends Doug Ballew and Sam Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Ave., Clarksville, VA on Sunday, October 23 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. and at other times at her home at 1201 Rice School Rd, Virgilina, VA.
