Mrs. Catherine Matthews Sullivan, 81, widow of James Eli Sullivan, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 at her daughter's home in Mechanicsville. Catherine was born September 29, 1931 to the late Willie and Edna Cole Matthews. She worked at Rose's Department Store early in her adult life and then in the cafeteria at Boydton Elementary School. Catherine also helped her husband on the family farm, was a homemaker and a loving mother. A member of Fields United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the Women's Group. Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday at Fields United Methodist Church with the Reverend Randy Baisey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Lynn and Steve Turner of Mechanicsville; sons and daughter-in-law, James Thomas Sullivan and John Edward and Donna Sullivan, all of Boydton; and grandchildren, Steven Mark Turner, Zachary Tyler Sullivan and Nicholas Eli Sullivan. Her sisters, Wilma Campbell of Boydton, Lois Owen of Skipwith and Peggy Tharpe of Charlotte Court House; and brother, Irvin Matthews of Chase City also survive. The family will receive friends at the church one hours prior to the service starting at 1PM.
