Charles Lawrence Claiborne

Mr. Charles Lawrence"Clay"Claiborne, 71, husband of Jean Tollerson Claiborne, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. The son of the late Charles Newton Claiborne and Beadie Iona Cliborne, Clay was born March 13, 1937 in Clarksville. Serving his country during the Korean War, he retired as a Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force. He was also a retired draftsman with Westinghouse, now ABB in South Boston. A funeral service with Military rites will be conducted at 3PM Sunday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Sidney Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. In addition to his wife, Clay is survived by his children, Charles Newton Claiborne, II and his wife Elaine of Newport News, Jeffrey Tyler Claiborne and his wife Rhonnda of Suffolk, and Claude Jason Claiborne and his wife Kristie of Boydton. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Ambrea C. McIrvin, Jeremy Claiborne, C.J. Claiborne, Kaitlyn Claiborne and Ashley Claiborne.
