Charles ("C.P.") Palmer Crute,

Charles “C.P.” Palmer Crute, Jr., 91, of Fernwick Drive, South Boston, Virginia, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, at his home. He was born on September 7, 1929, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, to the late Charles Palmer Crute, Sr. and Virginia Puryear Crute. C.P. was preceded in death by his son, Charles Glenn Crute and by three brothers, James Mattau Crute (“Taughty”), John Morton Crute (“Bo”) and Joseph Hadley Crute (“Joe”). C.P. was a dedicated and loyal employee of Burlington Industries, starting at Robbins Mill straight out of high school and working until his retirement in 1980.He continued to work in textiles for an additional 20 years as a valuable consultant across Virginia and North Carolina.C.P. was a member of Amis Chapel Baptist Church of Oxford, NC.Beyond work, C.P. enjoyed golfing, but in his younger days he loved playing and coaching baseball and softball. A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Amis Chapel Baptist Church, Granville County, NC. Visitation will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall from 1 – 2 P.M. and burial will take place in the Church cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends at the residence. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eleanor Pittard Crute of the home; four daughters, Donna Crute Wilson (Amos), Connie Crute Gilliland, Karen Crute Poole, Kathy Crute Bowes (Kent); daughter-in-law, Tammy Jackson Crute; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, George Adam Crute (Barbara) and a sister, Virginia Crute Fraiser.
