Charles Wade Harris, 78, passed away on August 21, 2014 and was born in Norfolk, VA on October 8, 1935. His parents were Willie Garner Harris of Mecklenburg County, VA and Mary Lowe Harris of Scotland Neck, NC. His father was born in a log house in 1908 on what is now Nelson Church Road on the Mecklenburg County side of Hitesburg, VA. Charles was the husband to the late Patricia Tuck Harris. Mr. Harris is survived by brothers, John W. Harris of Norfolk; Willie G. Harris, Jr., of Gainsville, FL; and Jimmy B. Harris of Chesapeake. He is also survived by four children and seven grandchildren. Charles enlisted in the United States Marine Corps following graduation from Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. He completed basic training in Camp Lejeune and was selected later to be a recruiter in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. After his military service Charles returned to Norfolk and worked in the insurance and automotive industry before what would become a career in the communication business. During this time he was active in the Harbor Front Kiawanis Club and served as president. He managed a professional answering service and transitioned to sales of beepers, mobile phones and eventually cell phones. Charles was employed by Motorola for many years. Prior to retirement he worked for Sprint and helped develop their coverage on the Virginia and North Carolina border in the Clarksville area. Among other involvements in the Clarksville area he was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and a very active member of the Tungsten Baptist Church. His brothers will always remember him for his contagious humor and generosity. The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel, Clarksville, VA 23927 with the Reverend Sam Brewer officiating.
