Clarksville, VA - Charles D. Hayne passed away peacefully March 10, 2017 at age 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G. Hayne and Thelma L. Hayne. He is survived by his brother, Raymond G. Hayne and sister-in-law, Madolyn V. Hayne; his nieces and nephews, Frances L. Moore, Raymond T. Hayne, Patricia Ann Hayne and Charles R. Hayne, 11 grandnieces & nephews, and 13 great grandnieces & nephews. He was born in Long Island, NY and moved to Spring Lake, NJ in 1942, where he grew up. He attended Saint Margaret’s Grade School, Red Bank Catholic High, Montclair State (BA), Newark State (MA), Univ. of Wyoming (6 year Level), NSF Institute, and RUTGERS-The State Univ. (ED.D.). He began teaching in 1956 in Manasquan (8th grade Science & Math). He spend two years on active service in US Army Chemical Corps (1 yr. at 7th Army HQ, Stuttgart, Germany). He returned to Manasquan Elementary School in 1958 and moved to Manasquan High School in 1959 (Science). Charles was appointed Chairman of the Science Department in 1971, teaching Chemistry and Qualitative Analysis. He was a Life Member of the National Education Assoc., former member of the NJ Principals and Supervisors Assoc., member of the NJ Science Teachers Assoc., the Monmouth County Education Assoc., and the NJ Education Assoc. Charter Member of Council 5611 Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree). Corresponding Secretary of the Spring Lake Area Chapter of Deborah Hospital Foundation. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. He was a member of the Clarksville Ruritans, The United States Power Squadron, and Durham Sail & Power Squadron. And a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Charles loved to travel, cook and telling stories. He traveled most of the United States and all of Western Europe as well as China and Africa. He occasionally cooked meals for the Ruritans and the Knights of Columbus. The man did not eat to live, but rather Lived to eat. Based on his audience, Charles would embellish his stories with alternative facts. A mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clarksville, VA. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
