Charles Matthew Nelson

Mr. Charles Matthew Nelson, husband of the late Rita Hite Nelson, passed away at his home on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the age of 84. He was born in Nelson, VAon June 13, 1936, to the late Matt and Jewel Nelson. Charles was formerly employed in industrial HVAC with Flakt-Bahnson and retired with Intermech, Inc as Vice President and CEO.Returning home, he farmed with his son, working with tobacco and cattle, for a number of years. He was known by those that loved him most as ‘Da’ and was a great babysitter, chauffeur and volleyball fan. Charles was a member of Nelson Baptist Church. Mr. Nelson is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, The Honorable Andy and wife Pam Nelson and Chuck and wife Carole Nelson; granddaughters, Lindsey Nelson Gieselman and husband Ryan, Paige Nelson Harris and husband DyQuan, Caroline Nelson and Elizabeth Nelson Moore and husband Jake; great grandchildren, Blythe Gieselman, Everett Moore, Cutler Gieselman, Chandler Harris and Brooks Moore; sister-in-law, Lynn Nelson Yancey; a host of nieces and nephews; devoted caregiver, Janet Sigman and not to be forgotten his faithful and constant companion, Joe. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert S. Nelson. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Nelson Baptist Church with Reverend Don Wilson officiating.
