SOUTH BOSTON Mr. Charles Edward Woody, Sr. of South Boston, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 78. He was born in South Boston on March 24, 1939, the son of the late Julian E. and Annie Ruth Bass Woody and was married to Ann Cox Lindsey Woody. A 1957 graduate of Halifax Co. High School, Charles was retired from Farmers Food/Shoppers Value and served in the U.S. National Guard. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and American Legion Post 8. Mr. Woody is survived by his wife, Ann Cox Lindsey Woody; daughter, Angela Woody Wilson of South Boston; two sons, Charles Edward Woody, Jr. and wife, Melinda of Nelson and James Mel Woody and wife, Penny of Sutherlin; sister, Alice W. Satterfield of South Boston; five grandchildren, Katelynn Grace Woody, Makayla Woody, Karlie Wilson, Meredith Woody, and Kyle Wilson; step daughter, Lorrie Lindsey Moore and husband, Reverend Wayne Moore of Dry Fork; five step grandchildren, Timothy Moore, Benjamin Moore, Amelia Lindsey, Peyton Lindsey, and Bailee Lindsey; and step great grandson, Brooks Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nancy Samples, brothers, Jimmy, Walter, Everett, and Emmett Woody, and step son, Shawn Lindsey. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Black Walnut Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 7 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home, 1104 Newton Farm Rd., South Boston.
