SOUTH BOSTON, VA. Mr. Charlie Elmo Franklin of South Boston, VA. died Friday, September 25, 2015 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 97.He was a lifelong resident of Halifax County and was the son of the late Archer Thomas Franklin and the late Ida Mae Thaxton Franklin.He was married to the late Elsie Tucker Franklin. Mr. Franklin retired with 41 yrs. of service fromVirginia Electric & Power Co.(VEPCO) in 1980, and was alifetime member of IBEW.He proudly served his country in the Middle East during World War IIand was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 8, the Honor Guard of Post 8 and a past member of the Beekeepers Association. He was an active member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. Mr. Franklin is survived by one daughter, Blanche F. Ridgeway of Bracey, VA.; two grandsons, Doug and wife Terri Ridgeway of Chesterfield, VA.; Barry and wife Gail Ridgeway of Richmond, VA.; three great grandchildren; one sister, Augusta F. Dobson of China Grove, NC.; and his favorite cat, Midnight. Special thanks to caregivers Daisy Franklin, Ruby Rhew, Judy Mulchi, Mary Gray, and Louise Baylous. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas, Lloyd, Archie and Benjamin and son-in-law Douglas Wayne Ridgeway. Funeral services for Mr. Franklin will be Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Freedman Kim officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by American Legion Post 8. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2015 prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home. The family requests that those wishing to give memorials to consider Glenwood United Methodist Church, 4030 Philpott Road, South Boston, VA. 24592.
