Charlie Brann Hughes, Jr.

Charlie Brann Hughes, Jr, affectionately known as “PeeWee” to his friends, entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the age of 56. He was born in Halifax County on November 4, 1965 to the late Charlie Brann Hughes, Sr and the late Ruby Creasy Hughes. He was devoted to the love of his life, Valorie Hughes and his two daughters, Heather and Candice.

Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Charlie managed his illness with strength and grace. He wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. In his final days, he was surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything else in the world. Charlie and his family, including his furry companions, Snickers and Sadie, were inseparable. Many of their memories include weekends boating at the lake and time spent camping at the beach together. When he wasn’t with his family, Charlie’s favorite pastime was spending quality time with friends. Together, they attended countless car shows, especially ones featuring his beloved Ford Mustangs and Broncos. If you ever rode by his house, odds are you saw him outside washing or detailing a vehicle. Charlie’s pride and joy was his ’74 Bronco-his passion project for over thirty years.

If you were one of Charlie’s friends you were loved like his family. The door to his home was always open. It often seemed like they had a revolving door with friends floating in and out – sometimes for a short time, sometimes for a long time, but always for a good time.

Charlie served as a deacon at Black Walnut Baptist Church for many years. He was a faithful servant of God both in the church and in the neighborhood. He was a role model for his community, friends, and family. He was always the one to lend a hand, provide advice, or just be there for others in their time of need.

He is survived by his wife, Valorie; daughters, Heather Dawn Hughes and Candice Brooke Hughes; sister, Cindy Hughes Meadows (Watt); nieces & nephews, Fallon Hudson (John), Melanie Hastings (Matt), Trey Smith and Jesse Smith; great nephew, Tyler Hudson; brother-in-law, Dale Pool and numerous friends and other family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Hughes Pool.

Even though his time on earth was short, he lived it to the fullest and with lots of love. The impact he’s had on others is immeasurable. He truly was a special person whose love touched so many. Knowing that we will be reunited with him again is one of our greatest comforts.

Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Black Walnut Baptist Church with Reverend Raymond Wooten officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 PM till 8 PM on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Black Walnut Baptist Church and other times at the home, 2206 Cluster Springs Road.
