Chris Tiller Debause

August 2, 1941 — July 5, 2023

Chris Tiller DeBause of Butner, NC (formerly of Clarksville, VA), passed away on July 5, 2023, at the age of 81. Born in Mecklenburg County, VA, on August 2, 1941, he was the son of the late Edgar and Fannie Wilkerson DeBause. Chris was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a retired Captain with the Department of Corrections in Yanceyville, NC and worked with University Ford as a transport driver. He is remembered as the “best Dad ever” and always considered Clarksville his true home, where he enjoyed gardening and being on the lake. Cherishing many fond memories are Rosemary Hamre of Butner and her son, Scott; a daughter, Gwendolyn DeBause of Lenoir, NC; a sister, Pearlie DeBause Bullock of Randalman, NC; grandsons, Christopher Wayne Sexton (Shanda) and Nicholas Kyle Browning, all of Lenoir; three half-sisters and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy DeBause Martin, and Velma DeBause Rollings. A Memorial service was held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 in the chapel of Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Jackie Wray officiating.
