Mr. Claude Merritt Adams, Sr. of 222 Easley St., South Boston, VA died on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the age of 93. He was born in Halifax County, VA on July 8, 1918 to the late William Wright Adams and the late Nannie Conner Adams and was married to the late Lessie McKee Adams. Mr. Adams was a charter member of Second Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Head Usher and was retired from Halifax Cotton Mill where he was a security guard. Survivors include one son, Claude Adams, Jr. & wife, Karen of Norfolk, VA; two daughters, Shirlyn A. Parker of Spotsylvania, VA and Althea Whitlow of South Boston, VA; four grandsons, Tony Whitlow & wife, Sherri, Claude Adams, III, Michael Adams, and Wayne Parker; four granddaughters, Tamra Whitt & husband, Kevin, Gina A. Chappell, Teresa P. Hafer, and Donna Kay Wallace & husband, Michael; 14 great grandchildren & 6 great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 10 brothers & sisters. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Linderman officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of his daughter Althea Whitlow, 218 Easley St., South Boston, VA.
