Conley David Pennington departed this earthly life peacefully at home with his family on November 29, 2024. Dave, as he was known, was born on August 26, 1945, one of eight children and raised in the Konnarock community in Smyth County, Virginia. In 1962 Dave joined the United States Army, serving two combat tours in Vietnam and earning the Combat Infantryman Badge and Purple Heart. While stationed in Germany,
Dave met his wife, Brigitte. Retiring from active duty in 1984, Dave returned to the Army as a civilian employee until his ultimate retirement in 2007. Dave and Brigitte lived in Lunenburg County, Virginia for 23 years before moving to Boydton, Virginia in 2007 to be near their son and his family.
Dave was a proud member of the VFW Roanoke River Post 8163 in Clarksville, Virginia. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Dave took great pride in his yard and garden and could be found tinkering in his garage most days. Always willing to help someone in need, he was generous with his time and “out of the box” problemsolving. Dave will be fondly remembered for his immense love of family, black coffee, collecting almost anything, and wildflowers.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Carson Pennington and Laura Mae Pennington, his brothers, Ralph Pennington, Kyle “Al” Pennington, Kelly Pennington, Donald Pennington, Fred “Tim” Pennington, and sisters, Ida Pennington Testerman and Gaye Pennington Burchett Doss. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53years, Brigitte Pennington, son David Pennington (Nora) and granddaughter Janie Pennington, all of Boydton, Virginia.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for December 10, 2024, at 10:00AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 805 Virginia Avenue Clarksville, Virginia with interment to follow in the Boydton Baptist Church Cemetery, Boydton, Virginia.
