Daniel H. Flye, of Norlina, NC passed away on October 4, 2012. He was born in Edgecombe County, NC, to the late Frank and Bessie Corbett Flye, and is predeceased by his loving and dedicated wife, Virginia Wadsworth Flye, young son, Frank Lee Flye and brother J.C. Flye of Whitakers, NC. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army and a Korean War veteran, serving in K Company, 5th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded in action on Oct 13, 1951 and awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for outstanding performance of duty and extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy on September 6, 1951. He received three Major Battle Stars, a Combat Medic Badge and a Good Conduct Ribbon. After his original service to his Country, he was honorably discharged after serving four additional years in the Army Reserve. A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 3:00 PM at White Oak Cemetery in Whitakers, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations in his remembrance may be made to the Edgecombe County Veterans Museum, Tarboro, NC.
