Diane Bates Austin

Diane Bates Austin of Scottsburg passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the age of 76. She was born in Halifax County on December 10, 1945 to the late Frank Thornton Bates and the late Mary Lee Jones Bates. She was born as Virginia Dianne Bates and later changed her name to Diane Bates Austin. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Harry Wilson Austin.

Diane "Nanny" loved to sing karaoke, dance to country music and spend time at the lake with her family. She took pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading when she was able to and loved to watch her favorite TV shows. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh and brought joy to so many lives. She will be missed by so many. During her working career, she was employed 24 years with Tultex.

Together Diane and Harry had two children, Kimberly Meyers and Addie Austin (Danielle); four grandchildren, Stephanie Elliott (Mitchell), Chase Meyers (Justine), Jessica Meyers (Dylan) and Chad Meyers; five great grandchildren, Daniel Cruz, Clara Elliott, Jackson Elliott, Riley Elliott and Milan Meyers.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings, Laline Adkins (Carroll), Addison Bates (Christine), Brenda Powell (Monk) and Ken Bates (Betty).

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 7th at the Austin Family Cemetery, 3121 Piney Creek Road, Scottsburg, VA.
