Dinkey Conner

Mr. Dinkey Conner, age 85, of 719 Magnolia Dr., South Boston, died Monday, November 16, 2009 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born November 18, 1923, he was the son of the late Melvin B. Conner And Martha Jones Conner and was the widower of Patricia Elsie Hopkins Conner. He was retired from Burlington Industries, Inc, and was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are 1 son, David Conner of Chapel Hill, NC; 1 daughter, Elizabeth Black of South Boston; 1 brother, John Conner of South Boston; 2 sisters, Bonnie Conner and Daisy Milam both of South Boston; and 2 Grandchildren, Dexter Bomar and Laura Leigh Moody. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Melvin "Pete" Conner, Andrew Conner and Sammy Conner; and 3 sisters, Elizabeth Green, Dora Propst and Shirley Puryear. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 4 PM at Ash Avenue Baptist Church with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm and at other times at his home.
