SIERRA VISTA, AZ - Donald Lewis Diamond, husband of Sylvia B. Diamond, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at his home in Sierra Vista, AZ. He was born on August 30, 1931 in Mankato, MN, to the late Donald and Yetive Diamond. The family moved to Estherville, IA where Don attended grade school and graduated from High School in 1949. After graduation, Don enlisted in the Marine Corps attaining the rank of Sergeant, was commissioned in 1953 as an infantry officer and retired in 1970 as a Major. He served in the Korean War, where he received the Bronze Star with Combat (V) Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. He served 13 months in Vietnam. After his retirement in 1970, he attended UNC at Wilmington, NC receiving a BS degree in Business Administration. He then moved to Clarksville, VA serving as Town Manager before purchasing the Clarksville Marina in 1975, which is still owned and operated by the Diamond family. He and his wife, Sylvia, operated the business until finally retiring to an RV lifestyle which eventually brought them to Sierra Vista. Don was a loyal member of the Sierra Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Sierra Vista Elks, and the Sierra Vista VFW. In addition to his loving wife of 68 years, Don is survived by his 3 sons, David (Beth) and Scott (Kathy) of Clarksville, VA, and Michael (Nan) of Stovall, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Diamond, Jonathan Diamond, and Jennifer Diamond Garrett; great granddaughters, Lili Diamond, and Chloe Garrett. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at AZ Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
